    1. Commander TJ

      I read it

    2. Fred Flintstone

Did you do the follow up for memory speed yet? I tested WoW in legion and i didnt see much difference between 2400 and 2933 ram but on the other hand 100mhz to cpu core clock made a pretty big difference (obviously i was also in a cpu bound area of the game).

    3. LAXEN9003

      Black Desert Remasterd.

    4. Lorioyama Emma-o

Thank you very much man, that helps me a lot.

    5. Edward Z Norton

OH WOW, im costing myself an average of 25fps with how my memory is installed, I knew it was costing me but I didn't think it was that much, and to clarify, yes I have 16 gigs of either 3000 or 3200 in single channel, ive meant to switch to dual channel forever now but ive always put it off and ive never gotten around to it

    6. Michel Richard

      I did XD (read)

    7. matthew sargent

Wish I'd seen this before I just bought 16gb 3000mhz ram dual channel.

    8. Naturalhighz

So for some reason my MB never worked with slot 1 and 2. so I've been running single channel in slot 3 and 4 and in all tests I've done my RAM scores are like 1st percentile aka absolute dogshit. How do I know if it's my cpu not recognizing the slots or my MB that's broken? would suck to buy the wrong thing.

    9. ExaTechHD

Try to test "Apex Legends" Now I've been having a problems with GPU and CPU usages and fps drops in "Apex Legends" as I have only one 8GB DDR4 stick in my main PC, paired with G4560 & r9 280x playing at 900p.. So I'm curious if that's cause of the game or actually my Pentium is dead for 2019... Now I don't have the hardware to test and have to wait till can buy another RAM stick

    10. AnEffinCookie

You should ram test the RAM

    11. irakli Mgeladze

0.1% could have been better because mostly low Ram give us less stability in framerate but not much changing in average fps

    12. Reuben Stern

      Yes, we read those. Sometimes.

    13. Reuben Stern

Of course Doom runs well... John Romero basically invented gaming as we know it, and he's still pushing the boundaries. He's right up there with Tim Sweeney and Steve Wozniak.

    14. DieWeltIstSchlecht

What about 2 4GB sticks in dual channel PLUS 1 8GB stick in single channel?

    15. Toxikaraidur _

i still read the end of video things. they're funny. i just have to slow the video down to 0.25 to read them.

    16. gagah antero

Tuna no crust? I've heard someone say that. But who? Oh i know. It was Brian O'Connor ordering tuna sandwich to Mia Toretto. 😂

    17. mrbbell

Is it just me or did he repeat himself like twice in the first 5 mins

    18. Loophole35

      No one likes the tuna!!

    19. Devon Bertin

Not super relevant or a title that runs well in general but Fallout 4 was extremely ram speed/timing sensitive. More than Ive ever seen.

    20. Jorcélio Machaieie

I spent my Cents on a old but yet expensive 16GB @ 2400MHz of DDR3 RAM (Avexir 1.65v) in a hope that I could fire them up to 2800MHz with Oc on my Asus P8Z77V DELUXE with i7-2600k and guess what?!? My 2nd Gen CPU is limited to a lousy 2133MHz so I paid a very expensive money to learn that. Thank you Intel.

    21. Marcus Cromwell

For me personally, the most demanding RAM game I had was Mass Effect Andromeda. It maxed out my 16GB of RAM on high settings... don't know why. So now I am at 32😅

      1. David Frick

Probably was just super poor optimization of the game.

    22. Shawn Tinsley

That's it i'm loading up my AOL dial up Internet disc, grab a intel pentium 1 processor, put a floppy disc of Oregon Trail in and unzipping the winrar files, type some random 1's and 0's in one of the folders and see what happens.

    23. Joshua Spires

quad channel does make a nice difference. also im rocking 32Gb of ram :P

    24. Clint Hobson

If I have 2 pairs running dual channel, but add another 2 more in the remaining slots that are not matched and won't run in dual channel mode, will the first pair still get the speed benefit of dual channel? Or will the whole system slow down to single channel mode?

    25. Jaron

Driving simulators like GRID and F1 tend to be very sensitive to RAM bandwidth.

    26. Simranjeet singh matharoo

Me: laughs worriedly in 16gigs single stik

    27. RTCalibre

      I need Star Citizen data!

    28. TheProspectormike

I got a GE63VR laptop with one stick 16g and a gtx 1070 and when i switched to dual 8g sticks with faster timings holy shit what a fps improvement !! GO DUAL ALL THE WAY

    29. AfTerLyF

I did the same thing buying 1x8gb stick thought of upgrading it to 2x8gb. 2years later still having 8gb.. No moni

    30. Hadouken OCX

Overwatch , BF the new one CS GO Read Dead 2 GTA 5 Crysis 3 the new Tomb Raider.

    31. Steve Egbert

It would be interesting to see if or when, the technology would allow a single stick to be either single channel or split to dual channel. It would of course entail ram, board, and cpu makers all working on it. Maybe it's already been tried and proven futile? Octo channel?

    32. Benjamin Henscheid

A like has been earned from the K.I.S.S. style intro.

    33. ZanderLexx

Rockstar recommends for Red Dead Redemption 2 12 Gb of Ram. So if you have 16 Gb but also Chrome opened you could probably need 32 Gb and this is no joke :D

    34. B. Lee

I would like to see some benchmarks on iRacing, dirt & asphalt oval..... There are alot of people that are getting into iRacing with no fps info as per certain graphics settings (also how the settings affect the fps). At least there aren't many useful videos that I have found. Would be nice to have more info to make more informed choices on hardware that we purchase. Ok, maybe this isn't as much about ram as it should sorry about that....

    35. Milan

Instructions not clear dick stuck in cpu fan

    36. Apocalyman

This is good because rn I have 8gb ram ddr4 and im getting 32 soon :)

    37. Marcel Beck

Could you try the Microsoft flight Simulator or prepar3d that is real heavy cpu and RAM dominating

    38. il Duderoni

      The Division 2?

    39. pignoodles

    40. voteDC

So the conclusion is that unless you are running monitoring software you likely aren't going to notice the difference during actual gameplay. That I think would have been an interesting test. Get PCs together with the different configs and get someone to try and guess what configuration of RAM each PC is using.

    41. PC Gamer18

Is there any performance differences between installing 1x16gb ram or 2x8gb?

    42. TheSuperMARIOnette

That moment when i've noticed you flying in the benchmark background... xd (yes, i'm new here xd )

    43. Jeffrey Photonboy

*JAY* I know the RTX2080Ti was chosen to increase the CPU bottleneck likelihood, however having a lot of VRAM can sometimes help builds with less system memory. It might be interesting to have a GTX1060 3GB and GTX1060 6GB card tested along with your DDR4 configurations to see if that changes the recommendation at all. A bit tricky to test that though I'd imagine.

    44. Jeffrey Photonboy

*small point* Jay doesn't mention it's an INTEL build until the end of the video. That's an important point because AMD would perform relatively worse with less DDR4 bandwidth (I thought it might have been AMD at first).

    45. Tyler

Lmao probably the best intro ive ever heard. "..........Ram......"

    46. Matt V

Very interesting test. Good content J

    47. moonlit fpv

ver nice video Jay :) Thanks. Man I can't believe how far tech has come. Back in the day we fucked around with 33MHz CPUs and 16MB of ram. Dude, I had the first ever Pentium CPU at 60MHz back in 1994 ;) Damn, must be getting old

    48. Uhuru N'Uru

Got me how anyone ever thought single channel is better than dual, I thought everybody new that you buy memory in matched pairs, for dual channel advantages. it's as old as the hills. I get the get more in a slot, for upgradabilty, but that's by using the 3rd, 4th slots. I currently have 32 GB in 2x16GB sticks, with two slots spare if I ever go up to 64 GB.

    49. ne0tic

Can you sometimes include Titanfall 2 in your tests? Thanks!

    50. ne0tic

If you have got 4 RAM sticks, the order in which you have them doesn’t matter if you have 4 slots right?

    51. ne0tic

What is better 2x8GB or 4x8GB? Does it matter for gaming or does the extra 16GB just matter for with example video editing?

    52. Michael Warrin

Dual channel helped me so much in cs go, I had 1 single 8gb stick and eventually got another one. Some how I got 20 - 30 more fps in cs. Don't be an idiot like me go dual channel lol

    53. FAKE NAME

Started with 8gb....waited 3 months price went down ...bought a second stick then waited a year before looking for more ram found out my style of ram has been discontinued so to get the remaing 2 matching chips I had to get them in a different heat spreader color. I checked with manufacturer to make sure they where identical except the color so now I have 2 white sticks and 2 black sticks=32bg @3466mhz

    54. TNTNight

I'd like to see you run this same test with a SATA HDD, SATA SSD, PCIE SSD and m.2 SSD.

    55. EVPointMaster

As you talked about your conclusion I was already writing a comment about how single vs dual mainly affects CPU performance, but then you said it yourself. I think it would be useful to do some single vs dual test in a balanced config, because most budget builds are more likely to be GPU bottlenecked.

    56. Bud De

x plane 11 seems to use a lot of resources in my computer. Not sure what to do to get FPS above 30.

    57. benbmusic88

Wow I suspected as much but I didn't think it would bring performance down by so much!

    58. Dimski

Jay, I think you're quickly becoming one of my favourite CZ-newsrs. Love your content, honesty and sense of humour. Keep up the good work. @HardwareCanucks are still my fav for PC case and peripheral reviews 😅

    59. Becky P

Getting 2x16GB for my new system. Would be interested to see how much timings affect real world gaming results.

    60. Draimond

Satisfactory by Coffee Stain Studio's!!! I know they're still working on optimisation but man, any help getting that fps up would be appreciated. See if you can get a save off someone who's got a decent build going. I get 120fps on a new save an my big factory was seeing fps as low as 30. There's a cpu hit for you!

    61. Sabertooth_814

Need to test on cod modern warfare 2019

    62. John Patz

I thought dual channel would make a difference, but was surprised to see dual channel RAM actually outperformed twice as much RAM in single channel.

    63. Sana omar

worst presentation ever. i m looking for the specs of the test and i have to watch 15 minutes ?

    64. Roy Evans

i got a 60hz fookin telly! The ram speeds don't matter to me.

    65. Roy Evans

I liked your chair flying while the charts were up )))

    66. LeFFisko

what about CAS latency? can we include that in the future test pls?

    67. E Knaap

Why you think USA is the only country in the world? Peanut butter with jelly is only eaten in America. The rest of the world does not think that those two HAVE to go together.

    68. PjStarTV

I was getting ready to type a comment about using the 2080 while talking about "budget" builds but I guess it's a good thing I let the video finish while typing since you sort of addressed that at the end.

J, i have dual channel, four times 8 gigs (32 gigs) ddr4. Your opinion????

    70. Francois Smit

Something about dual channel that wasn't mentioned here is, it can also be done with odd numbers of ram sticks, well provided it's more than 2, and probably less than 4 in which case 3... :) As well as different memory modules. The important factor is that the channels be balanced in capacity. You could have 2x2Gb in channel 1, and 1x4gb in channel 2, and maintain Dual channel, likewise for someone who has 8gb, 2x4gb, and would like 16gb, but don't want to buy 2 more sticks, or for some reason 1 may be better priced than another 2 smaller dimms, they could just buy 1x8Gb and balance out the channels. It would also be possible for someone with 2x4Gb to get to 12/24Gb by adding 2x2Gb(wierd move unless you have them laying around), or 2x8Gb and still maintain dual channel provided you then have one 4Gb and one of which ever other one in each channel, ie. 2+4 and 2+4/ 4+8 and 4+8.
