Lions rule the African savanna in The Lion King, which welcomes Donald Glover (Atlanta, Solo: A Star Wars Story) as future king Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter (Dreamgirls, Lemonade visual album) as Simba’s friend-turned-love interest Nala, and James Earl Jones (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Field of Dreams) as Simba’s wise and loving father, Mufasa, reprising his iconic performance from Disney’s 1994 animated classic. Chiwetel Ejiofor (Twelve Years a Slave, Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange) was called on to portray Simba’s villainous uncle Scar, and Alfre Woodard (Juanita, Marvel’s Luke Cage) portrays Simba’s no-nonsense mother, Sarabi. JD McCrary (OWN’s Tyler Perry’s The Paynes, Apple’s Vital Signs) fills the shoes of Young Simba, a confident cub who can’t wait to be king, and Shahadi Wright Joseph (NBC’s Hairspray Live, Broadway’s The Lion King) brings tough cub Young Nala to life.
Every kingdom comes with a trustworthy advisor or two. John Kani (Coriolanus, Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Civil War) was cast as the wise baboon Rafiki, and John Oliver (HBO’s Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart) was tapped as hornbill Zazu, Mufasa’s loyal confidant. When Simba goes into exile, he relies on two newfound friends-Seth Rogen (Sausage Party, Neighbors) lends his comedic chops to naïve warthog Pumbaa, and Billy Eichner (Billy on the Street, FX’s American Horror Story) joins the cast as know-it-all meerkat Timon.
From Disney Live Action, director Jon Favreau’s all-new “The Lion King” journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa’s brother-and former heir to the throne-has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his. The all-star cast includes Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Billy Eichner as Timon and Seth Rogen as Pumbaa. Utilizing pioneering filmmaking techniques to bring treasured characters to life in a whole new way, “The Lion King” roars into cinemas Summer 2019.

Flicks And The City - I cant choose. I’m happy there are enough differences I can like both ;) I still cried when I watched the new one (I probably cry a few times during the Disney movie - I can’t rule out that partially nostalgia though ;)).

      I still prefer the original. Maybe if they kept Be Prepared then maybe I'd give it the chance, but I just dont like these RL movies...they're alright and all but man, I usually never pass up a new Disney movie. But the thing is, they arent NEW, and for me, they're just...inferior ;^;

    9. Ruby Rose

I haven't seen the remake but I haven't heard good things and from what I've seen it's alright. but it's not the version I'm going to watch over and over again. mostly cuz it's too dark for my taste or at least that's the vibe I'm getting. but tbh Disney needs to leave the classics alone they're classic for a reason.

    10. Josh Peterson

94>2019 and it’s not close. Took out be prepared nazi March, can you feel the love tonight actually at night and Timone dressing up as a Hawaiian luau like a girl that needed to be in it. The new one is good not horrible but compared to the original it’s cringeworthy. And the mr pig part changed is ridiculous. Yes it lacked heart and soul of the original that’s the critics point Timone and Pumba not breaking down crying at can you feel the love tonight is ridiculous.

    11. Bobby Jo Williams

The difference is the new one is live action then cartoon character

    12. Bobby Jo Williams

I'll always love 1994 lion King then the new one

    18. marcelo winnykamien

Take a vote lion king or jungle book

    19. Donovan Stephany

This “remake” is a shame. Disney needs to leave their classics alone

    20. Kay-Leigh Lewis

Lion king remake: *exists* Me: WHERE. IS. ED.

    21. AuBurney Tuckerson

I love 2019 live action talking animal movies!!! I'm glad they cut out the human emotions and gestures. Now we know how REAL animals feel and react to their environment! Besides, people who don't feel emotion from realistic animals don't know enough about animal behavior to comprehend their feelings.

    22. AuBurney Tuckerson

The anti bullying scen was the only uncool part of the 2019 version. Otherwise, I liked everything else.

    23. AuBurney Tuckerson

1994: simba eats bug 2019: animals and simba eat bugs -asmr-

John Mulaney would’ve made a great Timon

*no FOOL we’re gonna kill him.*

    28. Kay Frank

be prepared was honestly a let down for me

    29. ViiV Creations

The original art was ART. It had character in the styling of its form...all this realistic shit is stupid, might as well go to a zoo and see real lions

    30. MiniMedley

I'm the only one that prefers the solid classic humor in the original lion king? And just to verify: I'm not mind-blown. This just makes me feel like the new owner of disney is insulting animals with the snooty monologging.

    31. nigel taylor

I like the new one music better

    32. Chung Us

Hyenas having comedy is not fitting for realistic while a flying elephant is?

    33. MadLad 777

There's not much to spoil if you've already seen the animated original.

    34. Gaming MJ

      I love lion king

    35. Reno vlogs

The removed the dialogue of mufasas Death, the new dialogue was so boring!!!! when simba speaks to his father.!!!! I hated that part!! made me mad, honestly!

    36. Mike Doyle

Honestly didn’t even finish the GARBAGE REMAKE!! I could make it thru past the lesson from mufasa

    37. Formula Fan Deluxe

I prefer The Lion King 1994 Version.

    38. Gucci with Luv

I see many comments talking about emotion. If you guys want emotion, then just stick to the animated one. If the characters had the exact expressions as the animated one, then it will be more cartooned than real, killing the whole point of something being live and realistic. it would look so tacky seeing the animals make human emotions. I watched the film not only from a disney point of view but also biology and realistic. I had so much fun hearing the songs as well as pointing out the wild nature side of some of these animals. While i do think certain parts could have been better, i really liked it overall. also, it is very CLEAR that there is some sort of emotion. most of yall are just blind lol. im guessing most people just expected exaggerated expressions.

    39. sportsmomndad

    40. Mulli Godingar

They should ask Moira Kelly to do the Nala voice again. The new one sounds as an grandmother

    41. Hemmy loves simba

      8:20 purmba

    42. Bolton Medical Practice

      I like both

    43. Borkbork ;p;

In my opinon, the original was much better. The expressions, songs, ect completed it. Be Prepared was a memorable classic. The fact it was not as realistic also played a big part, enough to keep children amused while watching.

    44. Afnan Acchan

1994 version will forever a classic while 2019 will be forgotten in 2020.

    45. Lord Linon

I expected realistic spirit of Mufasa. ... I got clouds.

    46. Audrey Garcia

    47. Abraham Hong

      14 best? I don't know about that

      1. Ruby Rose

where were the 14 worst? seems like it was what she thought was best.

    48. Tjija Mokobi

      I love this movie

    49. Overkill Maximus

Oh my word...learn the name! Pumba....poom-baa.....you're killing his name every time!

    50. The walking dead Seasons 9 and 10

The live action one is way more better

    51. Nella Salmi

Pe prepared was a total disappointment. I can't believe they paid more attention to a literal piece of shit rolling across the savannah than one of the most iconic disney songs ever TAT

    52. H Taylor

Lion king is cool in ROBLOX

    53. Beryl Aluoch

      I prefer the original

    54. Your Drawing and Life

      Like original simba and nala..!

    55. Honey Bunny

The new Lion King is more realistic Where the Old Lion King is unrealistic it’s just a simple drawing The Meerkat has such detail in the New movie where the old movie does not have such detail but other drawings can have detail maybe just not the Lion Kings Drawing but it’s better than what I’d draw

    56. El Gloougluu

Donald Glover As Simba Beyonce As Nala James Earl Johnson As Mufasa Chiwetel Eijofor As Scar Billy Eichner As Timon Seth Rogen As Pumbaa John Oliver As Zazu John Kani As Rafiki Alfre Woodard As Sarabi Penny Johnson Jerald As Sarafina Eric Andre As Banzai Florence Kasumba As Azizi Et Shenzi Keegan Michael Key As Ed Et Kamari Jdmccrary As Young Simba Shahadi As Young Nala

    57. Ashland Davis

I saw the new lion king

    58. *_Turquoise_*Wølfie_*

I could not stop singing can u feel the love tonight also did I miss the give away

    59. VeronaKate

Honestly I got both chest warming moments in the same scenes which is worth it to me . Here is how I look at it . One is for that child warming feeling and the other is for realistic immersion feeling . There is never anything wrong with that . I loved them both equally .

    60. anonym anonymní

I prefer the original version. I mean truly original version called Hamlet.

    61. Geffrey Dones

      At the end scar died

    64. thulani mfeka

Can i have the simba and scar

    65. elizabeth miller

Simba: "Hey Uncle Scar! Guess what?" Scar: "I despise guessing games!" Such a great and hilarious scene 💕

    66. Pigeon

They probably could’ve used more of the original cast.

    67. Queen Gemini 1111

    68. KionFandom T

      Rip in pepperonis Mufasa 1994 - 2019

    69. Richard Lee

      Who the heck is pumber?

    70. Tony Montana

The comedy which was virtually absent in the new one was like half the reason what made the original so good. When rafiki was doing kung fu on the hyena is missing. When simba was calling for help when his father died, the original made me choke up and still does to this day. New one was like...meh. If the original lion king never existed, no one would of cared at all for this movie and would of thought, what the hell was Disney thinking.
